Train service remained suspended for security reasons for the fourth day on Wednesday in the Kashmir valley following “Shopian Challo” called by JRL to express solidarity with the families of those killed on Sunday.

Four civilians and thirteen militants were killed in south Kashmir and another in Kangan area of Ganderbal and over 100 people were injured during clashes.

“Train services between Banihal (Ramban district of Jammu region) and Baramulla (Kashmir valley) were suspended as a precautionary measure,” officials said.

We have suspended all train runs for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, a senior railway official told Kashmir Life.

“We are acting on the advice of police,” he said, adding the decision to suspend all train runs was taken in the interest of the safety of passengers and railway property.

A fresh advisory was received last night from the police and administration that no train will run in the valley, he said.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, had announced to march to Shopian and express solidarity with the families of those killed there.

However, the JRL had urged people to hold demonstrations in their respective areas. Geelani and Mirwaiz are under house arrest while Malik has been lodged in central jail, Srinagar.
