SRINAGAR: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to allot the centre of choice to all Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) appearing for its examinations, in a move aimed at easing logistical difficulties faced by such candidates.
Announcing the decision, UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar said an analysis of five years of data showed that high-demand centres such as Delhi, Cuttack, Patna and Lucknow reached capacity early, often forcing PwBD applicants to choose less convenient locations. He said the new policy would ensure “maximum convenience and ease” for PwBD candidates by guaranteeing them their preferred centre.
Under the revised mechanism, existing capacity at each centre will first be shared between PwBD and non-PwBD candidates. Once a centre is full, it will be closed to non-PwBD applicants but remain selectable for PwBD candidates. The UPSC will then create additional capacity to ensure that no PwBD applicant is denied their chosen examination centre.
