Around 40,800 candidates were admitted during the same phase of the previous academic session. Of the admissions recorded this year, 35,040 were made through direct allocation, while 12,110 were completed through the walk-in mode.

The admissions were conducted on the basis of 10+2 merit through the Centralised Admission Portal, jkadmissions.in, developed by the Directorate of Colleges, JK.

According to Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director Colleges, JK, merit remained the basis for allocation of colleges as well as allotment of Major, Minor, Multidisciplinary and Skill Enhancement Courses.

The portal provided a single Union Territory-wide merit list, enabled candidates to upgrade their allotted seats through successive rounds and automatically managed migration of fees. The entire admission process, from registration to fee payment, was conducted online.

Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said 106 colleges recorded an increase in enrolment compared with the previous academic session, while most of the remaining colleges maintained their enrolment levels.

The Department of Higher Education attributed the outcome to the direction of Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, who reviewed the admission process and stressed transparency, merit-based admissions and convenience for students.

Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma, also ensured that the admission schedule remained on track, while college principals, admission coordinators and verifiers contributed to the implementation of the process at the institutional level.

The department said student feedback on the quality of teaching provided by faculty members had also contributed to attracting applicants.

Phase-II admissions will be conducted against vacant seats for candidates who qualify the biannual or supplementary higher secondary examinations, with their results expected to be declared in the coming days.

The schedule for the second phase will be notified separately after the results are announced. Candidates have been advised to monitor the Centralised Admission Portal for further updates.
