According to figures released by financial institutions and endorsed by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, this Q1 performance is the highest in the last four years. The surge signals renewed demand for Kashmir’s famed handmade products in global markets, even as the industry continues to grapple with disruptions caused by geopolitical conflicts.

A departmental spokesperson said in a press statement on Friday that the government is aiming for total exports worth over Rs 1500 crore this financial year, should global conditions remain conducive. “Higher exports of craft products to overseas destinations secure the welfare of Kashmir’s famed artisans and weavers,” he stated.

Highlighting initiatives to enhance product quality and marketability, the spokesperson mentioned the government-backed Design Studio at the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology in Srinagar and the role of the Craft Development Institute. “We urge stakeholders to access these innovative designs and packaging models to add value in high-end global markets,” he added.

As Kashmir’s artisans continue to adapt and innovate, the sector’s record Q1 performance is being seen as a crucial indicator of recovery, resilience, and international appea
