SRINAGAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a low to moderate flash flood risk alert for several districts in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, warning of potential flooding in localised watersheds and low-lying areas over the next 24 hours.

According to the 24-hour flash flood risk outlook, districts including Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, Mirpur, Poonch, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kargil, and Leh have been placed under watch due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall triggering surface runoff and waterlogging.
The IMD advisory, valid till 5:30 AM IST on July 23, 2025, also highlights the possibility of inundation in neighbourhoods with fully saturated soils and vulnerable catchment zones. The warning was accompanied by a detailed risk map outlining specific areas of concern in the northern region.
Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, the alert extends to parts of Ladakh and several districts in Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, Kangra, and Chamba.
Officials have urged local authorities in the affected regions to remain on high alert and advised residents to avoid crossing water channels, remain indoors during intense rainfall.
