SRINAGAR: Senior IAS officer Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has been transferred from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh as part of a major reshuffle of AGMUT cadre officers ordered by the Centre with immediate effect.

According to the order issued by the Government of India, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, a 2009-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been posted to Arunachal Pradesh from Jammu and Kashmir. He was serving as Commissioner/Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Department, Jammu and Kashmir.
The transfer is part of a wider reshuffle involving IAS and IPS officers across AGMUT cadre States and Union Territories.
Choudhary was recently promoted to the Super Time Scale (Level-14 of the Pay Matrix) by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
A native of Rajouri district, Dr Choudhary was born on March 5, 1980. He holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (B.V.Sc.) degree from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. He secured All India Rank 51 in the 2008 Civil Services Examination and joined the IAS in the 2009 batch.
He is recognised as the first Muslim from the Jammu region and the first Gujjar from Jammu and Kashmir to join the Indian Administrative Service through direct recruitment.
During his administrative career, Choudhary has served as District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner in several districts, including Srinagar, Rajouri, Bandipora, Leh, Udhampur, Kathua and Reasi. He has also headed key departments, including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Tribal Affairs, and Science and Technology, besides serving as Chief Executive Officer of Mission Youth, where he led several youth engagement and employment initiatives.
Choudhary has also received international recognition for his public service. He was selected as an Eisenhower Global Fellow and serves as a member of the United Nations Working Group for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, representing India on issues concerning indigenous communities and pastoral migration.
