SRINAGAR: Rajasthan Police arrested a 47-year-old man in Jaisalmer district on charges of espionage for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, officials said, as per multiple national media reports.
The accused, identified as Hanif Khan, a resident of Basanpeer Jooni, was taken into custody by the CID (Intelligence) after being found allegedly passing sensitive information about the Army to Pakistani handlers in exchange for money.
Vishnukanth, Inspector General of CID (Intelligence), as per NDTV report, said Khan had been under surveillance for some time after his suspicious activities were flagged. Investigations revealed that he was in regular contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media platforms.
“Khan had access to the border areas and was found to have shared details of key military installations and troop movements,” the official said, adding that he remained in touch with his handler during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and provided information about Army deployments.
Technical analysis of his mobile phone confirmed his involvement in supplying critical intelligence to the ISI. Police said he was arrested under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, following the recovery of strong evidence.
This is the fourth espionage-related arrest reported in Jaisalmer district this year, officials confirmed.
