Mutton dealers belonging to different places of Kashmir on Tuesday reached Srinagar to protest against the stopping of trucks carrying live stocks at Udhampur.

The protesting dealers said that around 250 trucks have been stopped at Udhampur from last one week without any reason, causing a loss in Crores.

General Secretary All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association Mehraj-u-din Ganie told Kashmir Life that a single truck carrying livestock is suffering a loss in lakhs due to the stoppage at one place, adding that climatic conditions are also posing a serious threat to the health of livestock.

Ganie said that despite an official recommendation from governor’s administration and Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmed Khan nothing has been done so far. “We already approached to Director, then Div Com and even followed the recommendation from governor’s office, but not a single truck has moved from Jammu to Srinagar yet,” he said.

Appealing the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene in the matter and allow their truckloads to move towards Srinagar, the dealers said the stoppage has already left the dealers in debt and if their livestock were stopped for a few more days they will not be able to pay the money to their dealers outside state for the further trade.
