SRINAGAR: A fresh landslide, triggered by rains, blocked the new track leading to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Thursday, officials said.
According to officials, the yatra is continuing without disruption via the old track. However, both the battery car and helicopter services remain suspended.
The landslide occurred near the Satya View Point along the Himkoti route, at a time when the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had already diverted pilgrims to the old route due to continuous rainfall and the risk of landslides.
Another landslide was also reported along the track to Bhairav Temple, causing further disruption to the movement of devotees, officials added.
Response teams have been deployed, and efforts are underway to clear debris from both affected tracks.
Earlier, on June 24, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had directed the identification of vulnerable spots along the yatra route and asked for immediate implementation of safety measures to mitigate risks from landslides and falling stones.
