SRINAGAR: Despite frequent disruptions, adjournments and Opposition walkouts, Parliament cleared a total of 26 bills during the month-long Monsoon Session, which began on July 21 and ends Thursday, according to multiple media reports.
As per Indian Express, the Lok Sabha passed 12 bills, including the Merchant Shipping Bill, the Income-tax Bill, the National Sports Governance Bill, the Mines and Minerals (Amendment) Bill, and the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill.
The Rajya Sabha cleared 14 bills, among them the Bills of Lading Bill, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, the Coastal Shipping Bill, and several overlapping legislations also passed by the Lok Sabha, such as the Merchant Shipping Bill, the Goa ST Representation Bill, and the Income-tax Bill, reports The Hindu.
Except for the Bills of Lading Bill, which was approved on the opening day without disruption, most legislations in the Upper House were passed either amid noisy protests or after the Opposition staged walkouts.
The only detailed debate in both Houses was on Operation Sindoor, with other key issues including the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar sparking repeated disruptions.
