SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the resumption of direct passenger flights between India and China, restoring air connectivity between the two neighbours after several years, as per several meda reports.
The declaration was made during his visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where the move was presented as a step towards strengthening trade and people-to-people ties.
According to officials, as per NDTV, the decision is expected to benefit business communities, students, and tourists by reducing travel time and eliminating reliance on third-country transit hubs.
The measure is also being interpreted as a confidence-building gesture at a time when bilateral relations have faced recent strains.
Airlines from both countries will release flight schedules in the coming weeks once regulatory clearances are finalised.
