SRINAGAR: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel next week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced while addressing the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations.
Netanyahu described the India-Israel relationship as a “tremendous alliance” and said the leaders will discuss multiple areas of cooperation. This will be Modi’s second visit to Israel, following his landmark 2017 trip, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country.
He added that several countries are seeking Israeli defence technology following recent military developments and advancements in high-tech and deep-tech sectors, highlighting Germany’s interest in investing significantly in Israel’s defence industry.
Last month, Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar confirmed that Modi had been invited, with official dates to be announced. Azar described India-Israel ties as strategic, noting that 2025 saw ministerial engagements, a bilateral investment treaty, security agreements, and progress toward a free trade agreement and financial protocols. Counter-terrorism cooperation remains a key pillar of the partnership.
The visit comes ahead of the February 19 Board of Peace initiative meeting, linked to a Gaza ceasefire proposal backed by the UN Security Council and expanded beyond its original scope. The initiative is connected to a plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump, with dozens of countries reportedly invited to participate.
