SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, in coordination with the Drug and Food Control Department, on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection drive of medical shops and pharmacies in the Qamarwari and Safakadal areas, leading to the sealing of several establishments for serious violations of pharmaceutical norms.
In Qamarwari, five medical shops were found in breach of regulations, including the possession and sale of expired medicines, improper maintenance of stock records, and non-compliance with rules governing psychotropic substances. Acting on the findings, authorities sealed New MS Medicate, Majid Medicate, Kashif Medicate, Baitul Shifa Bund, and Hamad Medicate at Qamarabad.
In a separate inspection in Safakadal, Azim Medicate, run by Irshad Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat of Bemina and located at Malik Sahib, was found operating with an invalid licence. Inspectors further discovered that nearly 90 per cent of the medicines stocked in the shop were expired. The establishment was immediately sealed under due legal process.
Authorities said the enforcement action reflects a continued effort to safeguard public health and curb the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.
Further legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators under relevant provisions of law.
Police said such inspection drives will continue across the district as part of an ongoing campaign against drug abuse and illegal pharmaceutical practices.
