The ration stores in Kashmir are facing scarcity of rice supply as the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) department is not issuing release orders to the FCI trucks laden with the supplies.
Sources said that almost all the stores in Valley are without ration as trucks laden with ration are not being issued release orders by CAPD.
The drivers, whose trucks are laden with ration, told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that they arrived at CAPD store in Shaheed Gunj here on August 1 and since then they are awaiting release order for unloading the supplies.
Many drivers including Sukhdev Singh, Manmohan Singh and Devendra Singh, said that they are running from pillar to post for seeking release but to no avail.
“The CAPD director told us to approach FCI and the FCI manager told us to approach CAPD. We are facing difficulties here from past 11 days and we are running out money,” they said. There are as many 200 trucks inside the CAPD store here, they said.
The drivers appealed government to issue release order so that they can unload ration at the stores.
When contacted, the CAPD Director, Abdul Rashid War, denied that the stores are facing ration scarcity.
“This is not our supply and is of FCI. We have already received the supplies as per our need and supplied to the ration depots,” he said.
