Hundreds of Talwara migrants protested in front of the assembly hall demanding implementation of Supreme Court order to provide Jammu migrants relief at par with Kashmiri migrants. J&K government had filed affidavit in front of Supreme Court in 2006 that no relief has been given to the Jammu migrants from 2004. The Supreme Court has directed to pay Rs 21 crores to the Jammu migrants without any delay.

The Jammu Migrants mostly women and children from Talwara Camp came to Jammu and demonstrated on the roads in front of the assembly hall demanding all the arrears and same facilities like housing, jobs, schooling for their children also.

As per a statement several Panthers Party leaders joined the Jammu migrants on the protest. The senior party leader Anita Thakur, Incharge Jammu migrants told the media persons that this protest was only symbolic and the migrants shall protest outside the Parliament also.

The Panthers Party leader and Talwara Migrants Committee appealed the Chief Justice of High Court of J&K to expedite the hearing of the migrants’ contempt petition which was remitted on July 7, 2008 by the Supreme Court of India to the Chief Justice of J&K with clear directions for its final disposal and report.

“The High Court of J&K registered the matter as CPPIL No. 1 of 2008 titled as Suram Chand Sharma Vs Gulam Nabi Azad & Ors. On November 11, 2009 the J&K High Court disposed of the petition with directions to pay the arrears within three months and few other directions were made. These directions were not implemented. Again contempt No.1/2010 titled Jagdev Singh Vs GK Pillai was moved in J&K High Court on February 26 2010. The matter has been listed 13 times but arrears have not been paid to the migrants as per the directions of the Supreme Court and the J&K High Court. The government of J&K has used coercive measures to drive away the genuine migrants from the private houses and thrown them out of their rented huts in order to demolish their addresses and claims.” The Panthers Party leader said in its communication.
